NO LIFE TOO SMALL by ALEXIS FLEMING

Heartwarming and heartbreaking in equal measure, No Life Too Small pays tribute to courageous and caring work of the world’s first animal hospice.

No Life Too Small is the joyful and inspiring story of the world’s first animal hospice, celebrating the power and beauty of nature, the strength of the human and animal spirit, and the importance of love, friendship and community. It will leave you with a tear in your eye, a smile on your face and a renewed belief in human kindness.

A few years ago Alexis Fleming was bedridden with a chronic illness. Things became so bad that she wanted to end her life many times during this period – but her beloved dog, Maggie, kept her going, especially when doctors gave her just six weeks to live.

Incredibly, Alexis fought her way back to health with Maggie by her side, only for Maggie to die of lung cancer two years later on a vet’s operating table. Alexis was devastated that Maggie had died without her and decided to start an animal hospice in her name in the hope that she could ensure other animals nearing the end of their life would not have to die alone.

Six months later, the Maggie Fleming Animal Hospice was launched. Alexis has turned a dilapidated farm in rural Scotland into a haven for animals to live out their last days in comfort and at peace. With the help of the local community, despite many challenges, the hospice came to life.

Meanwhile , Alexis’ own health was deteriorating again and she needed life-threatening surgery. Alexis came through the operation and the road to her recovery was paved with companionship from the animals in her care, particularly Bran, a dog who had been dumped with terminal cancer and given six weeks. He recovered alongside Alexis and went on to live for two more years. Dogs, however old and mangy, chickens, sheep, goats, pigs, cockerels and even turkeys : The Maggie Fleming Hospice is a place where all manner of terminally-ill, abandoned animals come to live out their last days in comfort and are treated with love

Looking after dying animals has taught Alexis what really matters in life – kindness, compassion and love.

WHITEGATE ANIMAL SANCTUARY

Whitegate animal sanctuary was set up in August 2018 by myself (Laura) and my 2 young sons, Jake and Matthew. We rented an old farm to turn it into sanctuary for animals in need. At first it was funded by myself via my doggy daycare business, but as more animals were rescued, their feed, bedding and vet bills increased which I was unable to manage alone, then donations were given from you lovely kind people to help keep the sanctuary going.
Our rescued animals include 8 pigs, 7 goats, 6 sheep, 80 ex commercial chickens, 25 cockerels, 4 ducks, 2 turkeys, 2 bull calves dogs, cat and rabbits. All these animals are rescued from the meat, dairy and egg industries, as well as unwanted or abandoned pets.
When covid hit, my business was impacted so severely, I lost most of my income overnight. I had to make the decision to relocate the sanctuary to cheaper premises, and the boys and I moved back to our home (which we had rented out.)
So in December 2020 all the animals were moved to their new site in hoylake where they’ve all settled in and are delighting passers by with their presence 😁
Many are asking how they came to be here so this is the brief story 😊
The sanctuary will be solely run on donations now as my business is still suffering.
Details are below if you’d like to support us.
The sanctuary PayPal is: paypal.me/whitegate763
The bank is Santander- under my name Laura Whelan 090129 31342715
Thank you so so much for helping keep the sanctuary open. 💛

arnie phillips

ARNIE was my doggie, a valentine pup with a green ribbon, born on 14th Feb 2007, we took him home from Derbyshire just after my birthday in April that year and he remained by our sides for the near almost 12 years and lifted me in every moment I saw his face, until tragically when I was homeless working on a farm in Scotland back in Jan 2019, we were forced to make the hardest decision ever and even though he was old and failing in many ways it will stay with me forever…
I KNOW he forgives me and beams down on me every single day, I never stopped feeling him and ARNIE, this station is dedicated to all I have loved and lost that so includes you and GOD/DOG PRODUCTIONS are in memory of an energy that was way way more than the most precious four legged true friend…
ARNIE was a GOD DOG
