Autumn Leaves?

LISTEN WITH YOUR HEART...

I HAVE FOR ALWAYS LOVED TREES!!! IT WAS PASSED ON FROM MY DEAR DEPARTED MOTHER, WHO I REMEMBER PLANTING MANY IN THE GARDEN OF OUR FAMILY HOME AND WHEN WE HAD TO MOVE OUT OF THIS RENTED HOME AFTER HALF A CENTURY, 6 YEARS AGO, WHAT GRIEVED ME MOST WAS LEAVING HER TREES BEHIND... SO MANY PEOPLE NOW FEEL NO CONNECTION TO NATURE AT ALL AND TREES ARE BEING FELLED AS 'INCONVENIENCES' EVERYWHERE, IT SADDENS ME TO THE CORE BECAUSE I KNOW HOW IMPORTANT THEY ARE, MOST ESPECIALLY IN OUR 'CONCRETE JUNGLE' AREAS! ONCE AGAIN, SHE SIGHS…

At the seemingly never ending ignorance around her

So, we have an OLD GUY who lives few doors up from us that we always say hello to, I always admire his agility as he’s always up a ladder or doing something physical despite his age, which I would guess at mid 70’s!

There is a magnificent TREE near the park entrance opposite his house, one of my favourites, I’ve not quite named it yet and I really must find out what it is, anyway I love it and we always admire it…

So this OLD GUY is brushing up the leaves from this tree, and it’s kept them longer than most of the others but they are starting to come off now. As we pass by he looks up, seemingly towards the sky, and mutters something that I can’t make out, so thinking he’s probably referring to yet another grey cloudy dark day, I just kinda nodded in agreement…

HOW WRONG WAS I! Turns out he was saying that the tree keeps getting bigger and it needs CUTTING DOWN???

I do wish I’d heard that because I would have said something, in only ever a friendly way!

It just personifies, I’m afraid, the IGNORANCE of most that are around us, in that he’s got to his grand age and still has NO CONCEPTION OF WHAT TREES ARE and what they do for us, he’s the kinda guy it turns out that would ring the council and start moaning about the most beautiful tree he is lucky enough to have on the other side of the street to his house and they would take heed and come and cut it down… urghhhhhhhhh

AND SO… for the inconvenience of having to brush up said leaves, which he doesn’t even need to really do truth be told, he would have this gorgeous specimen CUT DOWN

Afraid he’s really gone down in my estimation now, sorry but I just can’t help feeling that…
